1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Split-Window £140,000
1963 saw the introduction of the new C2 generation Chevrolet Corvette. A completely new direction from the C1 saw fastback styling, revolving headlamps, louvres, a sharp shape and the ‘split screen’ rear window that was around for its first year. Engine options were plentiful, but most cars used Chevrolet’s 327 V8 with well over 300hp, and buyers could even opt fuel injection. The car was very successful in racing, partially down to its independent rear suspension, Posi-traction axle and radical chassis design and was equally successful in the showroom throughout production.
This ‘Vette is one of the rare split window coupes and houses its original 327 L84 Chevrolet V8. This is also twinned with its original Borg Warner 4-speed manual transmission and correct Rochester fuel-injection. A correct Winters intake is also mated to the car, alongside finned Corvette valve covers, correct exhaust manifolds and a Harrison radiator. And in keeping with its racing pedigree this Sting Ray runs on 110 race fuel.
It has benefitted from an extensive 4.5-year restoration using nearly all original components, with accurate details, well-adjusted fitting and a matching-numbers car. Correct textures and decals are present, as well as rebuilt items such as the suspension, alternator, master cylinder and reproduction Delco battery. The dark blue vinyl interior was installed by RKM Motors in North Carolina, which is complemented by stainless trim and an original Delco radio. A fantastic opportunity to own a very desirable split-window C2 in beautiful condition.
